At Joy Church, we believe in the biblical and powerful tradition of child dedications. An act of worship, thanksgiving and surrender. Giving back to God the gracious gift He has given to you.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Psalms 127:3-5 ESV
Although we don’t believe that a child dedication is something a family HAS to do, we do believe it’s significant and POWERFUL. Which is why we make it a priority to support our families by providing an opportunity and encouraging them to dedicate their children to the Lord.
In 1 Samuel (1:11, 21-28), Hannah promised to dedicate her son to the Lord when He blessed her with a child. She did this in accordance with Old Testament Law (Exodus 13.) In the New Testament (Luke 2:22), Joseph and Mary even took baby Jesus to the temple for dedication. Jesus Himself continued and demonstrated this tradition in His own ministry.
One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. 14 When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” 16 Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.
Mark 10:13-16 NLT
A child dedication is a public commitment before God, friends and family to raise children in a way that honors God. Acknowledging your need for God’s active involvement in your family.
